Preliminary Pastoral Opportunity
Mission Statement
At Morning Star Baptist Church, it is our mission to help every person believe in God and every Christian grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Our History
Morning Star Baptist Church was founded on June 14, 1965, by a small group of devoted parishioners (exact number to be confirmed) who gathered for worship in the home of its first Pastor, Rev. James Meadows. During these early services, the church received its name through the spiritual insight of Mother Richardson, who—guided by scripture—named the congregation Morning Star, symbolizing hope, light, and the promise of Christ.
In 1976, while Rev. Walter Stevenson was serving as Pastor, Morning Star relocated to its present home at 1257 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan. That same year, the church purchased the property, which had formerly operated as a funeral home.
Through vision, renovation, and faith, the former funeral home was transformed into a sanctuary—symbolically shifting the space from a place of mourning into one of worship, renewal, and spiritual life.
